The Portsmouth Dog Park is located just off Junkins Ave and South Mill Pond near the tennis courts. The park itself is approximately the size of a football field. The area is fenced in and the entrance has a smaller enclosed fenced in area to provide a place to remove your dog's leash. The surface is a gravel base covered with stone dust, and smaller edges of grass. It was all grass at one time, but heavy use and rains turned it into a mudbowl or duststorm. A picnic table and a few benches are provided for the humnan visitors. Plastic shopping bags are available in containers to clean up after your dog. Water is also available for the animals as they usually work up quit a thirst running and playing. It's comical to see all of the different type dogs that visit the park. Everytime a new arrival enters the leash pen, all the dogs rush over to investigate. A pack frenzy starts as the dogs get excited and can't wait to say hello. Occasionally a skirmish will break out, but the dogs always work it out with each other.
The park can also be a great place to meet other people with a common interest, so humans can socialize as their dogs do the same! The park is just a great, safe place for your dog to get some fresh air and exercise. As dog owners know. an exercised dog equals a happy dog and a happy dog equals a happy owner!
