Kensington is a small rural community located in Rockingham County in southeastern New Hampshire only 8 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and near the border of Massachusetts. With a total population of just over 2,000 residents and covering an area of 12 square miles, the town is a great place to call home.
The Town center includes the Town Hall, Fire and Police Departments, two churches, library, convenience store and restaurant. Sawyer Park is also located in town. It is a beautiful area for town residents with baseball and soccer fields, playgrounds and pavillions with picnic areas. Walking trails for enjoying nature are also in the park.
The Town has its own Elementary school with grades K-5. It is part of the Exeter School system, SAU-16. The children attend the Co-op Middle School in Stratham, NH for grades 6-8 and then the Exeter High School for grades 9-12.
Kensington remains a community of farms, pastures, woodlands and wetlands. It was natural location to set up a trail system known now as the "Kensington Trail System" throughout the town's borders over a series of town conservation lands and private lands. With the town's agricultural history, horse properties abound, with easy access to this extensive trail network. Other outdoor recreational uses such as hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross country skiing are also enjoyed on the trails.
The town roads have names such as Stumpfield, Wild Pasture, Drinkwater, Hemlock, Juniper and Muddy Pond and one gets an idea that this is a place where old fashioned values still prevail.
